Andrew Cohen & Marc Gafni: Future of Love

Listen to this series of three dialogues between Andrew Cohen and Marc Gafni as part of the series The Future of Love.

Andrew Cohen and Marc Gafni have engaged in dialogues in both formal and informal contexts over a number of years, beginning at a shared retreat in Israel in 2005. One of the major motifs of the dialogues was an attempt to clarify the distinctions between their two visions of enlightened consciousness.

Over the years, students from different communities asked for the distinctions to be elucidated and laid out in a clear fashion. What emerges is that Andrew and Marc share the belief that the realization of classical enlightenment, what is often called True Self, is the ultimate goal of the enlightenment journey. Both Andrew and Marc point to a realization beyond being, beyond the realization of one’s true nature. This evolutionary realization is called Authentic Self by Andrew and Unique Self by Marc.

There has been another dialogue between them that charts some of the shared features and differences between these two visions.  You can read the partial transcript of that dialogue here.

Daphne Rose Kingma & Marc Gafni in Dialogue

Daphne Rose Kingma, author of The Future of Love, gave an inspiring keynote address at Integral Spiritual Experience 2. After our annual week-long practice retreat, Dr. Marc Gafni and Daphne Rose Kingma came together again to discuss the next step of the journey””how do we navigate the post-conventional territory of love?

The postmodern revolution raised our expectations for love and intimacy””now many of us want to find a “soulmate”, not a mere spouse. The sexual revolution changed the context of commitment in relationships””a series of monogamous relationships is the new norm for many of us. And spiritual awakening changes the very definition of love””if you love everyone, how is your love for your beloved in any way “special”, and how does it meet his or her need to be adored and cherished? Human love dwells in the in-between zone of human paradox, yet it needs a spiritual and an evolutionary context. Love is not only about fulfillment, it is also about self-sacrifice and giving.

So what are the five principles for navigating the post-conventional territory of love? You’ll just have to tune-in to find out!
