This recording is from Marc Gafni's teachings with the Circle of Venwoude.

What the Circle is... from the Venwoude website:

You have to do it yourself, but you don’t have to do it alone. The Circle is the group of people living at, or connected with, Venwoude Integral Practice Community. They have chosen to be on the Path together, to continuously deepen and evolve their Practice. Some are together for more than 15 years, others joined in recently. There is openness, support and involvement and deep gratitude. We look for cutting edge teachings and teachers and we invite them to study with us as teachers in residence.

In Dr. Marc Gafni we found both the greatness of vision and the depth of LOVE, that challenges us and inspires us. Below you will find a series of fantastic and challenging sessions that Marc Gafni offers monthly to the Circle. What you'll hear is the unplugged rendering of this beautiful material.

Michael Ellsberg interviewed John Mackey and Marc Gafni for Forbes

In 2013, there was an awesome event in New York organized by Kristina Kincaid, Lesley Freeman, and Michael Ellsberg. The event took place and was hosted in the beautiful Manhattan downtown apartment of Jose and Carmen Arozamena.

The evening began with a private interview of John and Marc for the major US publication Forbes, talking about the important interface between their two books, Conscious Capitalism by John Mackey and Your Unique Self by Dr. Marc Gafni. In the interview, specific focus was given to an idea that John and Marc have developed together: the Unique Self of a corporation.

Board Meeting 2014: Ken Wilber on Integral Wisdom

In Ken’s talk at the 2014 Board Meeting, he talked about the different implications of the term World Spirituality versus the term Integral Wisdom.

In 2012, Marc and Ken initiated a two-year conversation with the leadership of the Center about what the think tank’s formal name should be. We began as The Center for World Spirituality, and then, the name evolved to The Center for Integral Wisdom. In the end, our decision is to call ourselves iEvolve: Evolving the Source Code of Culture: The Center for Integral Wisdom. Within that context, one of our lead projects is the World Spirituality Project.

You can listen to Ken Wilber’s talk on Integral Wisdom from the Board Meeting in February 2014 and read the transcript below:

God Is Eros Part 1

The teaching here has been recorded as part of the Venwoude Circle teachings in the 3rd year of its existence.

The Venwoude Circle, a group of about 70 committed practitioners, gathers once a week to practice together. Once a month, Dr. Marc Gafni does a teaching on skype.

The teachings have been deepening over the years. They are mystical teachings on the "inside of the inside."

The nature of the Sangha plays an important role in this as Dr. Marc points out:

The last 2 years, maybe it’s three years already, the Dharma gates really opened for us at Venwoude. At the Mystery School, and other times that we have met.

New teaching is coming down that now is finally finding its way to the world. We are just so excited. It’s the privilege of you. It’s your energy, it’s your presence, it your integrity, your goodness. The Dharma gates open because the Buddha is the Sangha. Because the community has done work for 25 years. All the work that the community has done, the work that the Center of Integral Wisdom has done. All the work that each of you has done and all the enlightenment practice I have done, all of it comes together. And if we really yearn, if we really pound at the doors, the gates open!

Integral God

In these dialogues, Dr. Wyatt Woodsmall and Dr. Marc Gafni were talking about how God appears differently at different stages of consciousness.

Dr. Marc Gafni starts the first dialogue by setting up the meta-question:

As we’re trying to develop a world spirituality based on Integral principles, one of the key ideas we have is this distinction between what we call ‘wake up’ and ‘grow up’. Wake up refers to waking up, the way we use the words, waking up to states of consciousness. I wake up to a higher state of consciousness, for example, a state of consciousness in which I realize that I’m not separate from everything, but I am part of the seamless coat of the universe. I move beyond my limited identification with what Gregory Bateson called “my skin-encapsulated ego” and I access a larger sense of my identity. And that has all sorts of implications in terms of how I look at the world, etc.

This is material that you are all, of course, very familiar with, and Wyatt has taught many times, I’ve taught many times, and we’ve lived in our lives. That’s waking up, and that is what’s often called enlightenment. That’s classical enlightenment. So Shankara, the major teacher of Vedanta, particularly Advaita Vedanta, is all about this kind of awakening. And whenever you hear terms like liberation, awakening, selfinquiry, who are you really, it’s always about this. So that’s waking up.

But one of the things we’ve realized is that waking up isn’t sufficient. You also need to grow up. To grow up refers not to higher states of consciousness, but to higher structures of consciousness, to higher stages of consciousness, to higher structure stages of consciousness, of the kind that were so beautifully described by Jean Gebser in his kind of breakthrough work, by James Mark Baldwin in his earlier work where he talked about the different stages of consciousness in the three major lines of the aesthetic, the moral – the good, the true and the beautiful – and the scientific. Baldwin talked about the aesthetic, the moral and the scientific, and about clearly different emergent levels of consciousness in each one, much like we would use the terms from Kohlberg’s research – egocentric, ethnocentric, worldcentric, cosmocentric – which are different levels of moral consciousness, Piaget, who talks about different levels of cognitive ability, from concrete operational to formal operational, which is his highest level.

So the other part of world spirituality is not just waking up, but growing up, growing up to higher and higher levels of consciousness, and at each level of consciousness God appears differently. So if we would take, for example, the model of Spiral Dynamics, which is one model that you and I have talked about before, which is the Graves model which is the source of it, that Dr. Woodsmall who is with us is really one of the world experts, not only at this model, but he’s actually evolved it, deployed it, integrated it with other material which gives it an enactment, but which is all beyond this conversation. Dr. Woodsmall is one of the leaders in the world in evolving this material to a whole new level, which we’ll get to hear about in the coming weeks.

Wisdom School Shalom Mountain 2013-10: Pleasure

The Six Levels and Twenty-Four Principles of Pleasure

Shalom Mountain’s Wisdom School hosts weekends during which we practice the holy trinity of Buddha, Sangha and Dharma. Buddha is our first person experience of God, Holiness, Tao, Atman, Ayin, Spirit or whatever name you want to give it. Sangha is the sacred, pleasurable incarnation of spirit invoked by the gathering of like minded men and women in a community of purpose and joy. Dharma transmission is a teaching or teacher that creates and “transmits” a space of open heart and in-sight from deep within a spiritual lineage, that holds, guides and illuminates the way of the authentic seeker.

Shalom Mountain’s Wisdom School is led by Dr. Marc Gafni, a renowned spiritual teacher, scholar and visionary who offers us the opportunity to participate in the Evolution of Consciousness, the Evolution of Enlightenment, Evolution of Unique Self and Outrageous Loving toward both our uniquely personal transformation and the Evolution of Love itself.

In the course of each weekend we engage mind, heart, body, soul and spirit in practices of Dharmic study, chanting, yoga, meditation, movement and other experiential integration processes.

Through this recording, you can join us for a weekend where you will experience profound aliveness, joy and transformation for yourself and for the evolution of love on all levels of reality.

Marc Gafni: Outrageous Pain, Outrageous Love – Remix by John Tarcza

The Center for Integral Wisdom is pleased to share a spontaneous artistic creation inspired by a recent event of ours in connection with Shalom Mountain.

John Tarcza tells us that a “wild idea started to stir and evolve uncontrollably” in him while editing audio recordings from the weekend. He combined a few minutes of reflections by Marc Gafni with music (Erik Satie Gnossienne No. 1, Buddha Bar remix) … and created this wonderful combination. John has graciously allowed us to share it with you.

Enjoy!
