Part 2: Future Books of Center for Integral Wisdom

Each of the following books is being written within the context of the think tank—over the next decade or more. The thought leaders listed on the cover of the book are working on the book in conjunction with the scholars of the CIW think tank. Sometimes the mentioned authors and/or CIW leadership will write an introductory essay. At other times we will help guide the research but be among the writers of the book. Other books will be more formally co-authored. In still other cases, CIW scholars will actually write the first drafts of the book. The right relationship for each project will emerge appropriately on a project by project basis. Dr. Marc Gafni is involved at different levels in many of these projects, ranging from being the lead author, co-author, or at times simply writing an introduction to frame the topic in terms of the larger world spirituality conversation. Humanity is on the verge of a self-inflicted extinction. Awareness of this fact has been reverberating through culture for about 30 years (maybe as much as 60). What is to be done? Most are looking for techno-scientific and economic solutions; we argue that these are important, but that the problem is more fundamentally educational—we are in the midst of a species-wide identify crisis, requiring a revolution of consciousness, not just of techno-economic arrangements. On the one hand there are the techno-economic optimists who see a future in which our current techno-economic systems are salvaged, re-designed, and made increasingly scientific, efficient, and profitable; we will avert disaster by creating a hyper-scientific, human controlled Heaven on Earth. Then there are the techno-economic pessimists who see these very attempts at continued scientific control and economic growth as the problem, sensing that the technologically wrought future they yield will give us more of what we’ve already had for nearly a century: a system that decimates communities and ecosystems, and that will eventually degrade the Earth until the biosphere is simply unable to sustain life. Importantly, both pessimists and optimists focus on external systems, processes, resources, technologies, and economies. When they speak of crises they refer to broken or scarce things (broken ecosystems, unhealthy food, toxic air, failing schools, etc.). When they speak of innovation, they mean the creation of new and better things (healthy forests, organic food, new energy technologies, fresh air, good schools, etc.). The future is in the balance for both camps, no doubt, but they both set their focus mainly on the impacts of science, with a focus on sustainability and the physical continuity of life as we know it. The book argues we need to take a fundamentally different approach when thinking about the current global situation. We need to focus on interiors, on consciousness, on moral crises and crises of self-understanding, crises in which hope and faith are the scarce resources; with mindsets, capacities, and worldviews in need of reform and redesign. The book clarifies the need for innovations toward new and better action-orienting worldviews, conceptual frameworks, and especially, a re-invention of the human sense of self. Outrageous Love: The Path and Practice of Outrageous Love Letters

The first is a popular mainstream form which is focused on the practice of writing Outrageous Love Letters. This book is similar in form to the Artists way. The second version of book is written in the Unique Self style or the style of Michael Beckwith’s book Spiritual Liberation. It is a deep dharmic dive -written in accessible style. It is based on the ten laws of outrageous love. This book is under contract at the Folio Literary agency. Ordinary love is either a sentiment or a strategy of the ego to attain comfort and security. It is reactive and limited. Outrageous love what Bengali poet Tagore described as not mere sentiment or strategy but the heart of existence itself. It is what Dante referred to when he talked about the love that moves the sun and the stars. It is what philosopher Alfred North Whitehead alluded to when he said that evolution is gentle and not so gentle movement towards God by gentle and not so gentle persuasion of love. The outrageous love manifesto is the best approximation that we have today of the inner nature of reality. One of the greatest developments in science in the last hundred years is the realization that the Universe is not just a time and a place. The universe is not static. Human beings who have evolved from narrow ego centric love, felt love and care for themselves their survival clan to ethnocentric love, felt love and care for their larger community or people, to worldcentric love, felt love and care for every human being, and ultimately cosmocentric love, love and care for all of reality.  But it is not just a generic love that awakens. Each human being is irreducibly unique both from an exterior and interior perspective. Every human being has unique atomic and cellular signature. An utterly unique immune system, an irreducibly unique and infinitely elegant and complex dance of a hundred trillion cells in unique complementarity, unlike any other that ever was, is or will be. Each human being has an irreducibly unique interior, a unique incarnation of the very same outrageous love intelligence that initiated and animates all that is. What we will call in these pages, the awakening to outrageous love, is the realization that you are not only a spectator but an irreducibly unique actor in the great drama of the universe. Evolutions awakens as you and through you. You are ultimately needed by all that is. No one else can do IT-whatever IT is for you –other than you. And IT desperately needs to be done if we are to live in a world of love. The invitation is to awaken as an outrageous lover and to commit outrageous acts of love. To awaken as an outrageous lover is to awaken as the irreducibly unique incarnation of the love intelligence and love beauty of all that is living in you, as you and through you, Your Unique Self. You awaken as within the overall operating system of reality. The overall operating system are the interior laws of outrageous love that govern the universe and explain how you interface, align and incarnate those core principles of reality.
