From the dialogue:

Barbara: So the evolution of love has to do with the freedom to choose to say yes to the impulse of love within yourself and to be wise enough also to know in what direction that love is to go. It’s not just to be love in a totally expansive way for everyone and everything. Everyone has a unique aspect of the evolution of love, which is the evolution of I think of it as our soul’s code like we’re almost born to give certain gifts to the world. . . .

. . . when you get to the evolution of love and you realize that love is the impulse of creation itself in you, specifically as you, and you say yes to it, something starts to turn on in you that is I would say the impulse of evolution as love and it starts to guide you.

. . .

Marc: . . . Barbara then jumped to stage four so gorgeously; then I go from world-centric love to Cosmocentric love where I actually identify as evolution awakening as me. Love incarnates, love intelligence incarnates as me, and the evolutionary impulse of all of reality becomes awake as Barbara. And reality is having a Barbara experience and Barbara as the evolutionary impulse of love begins to act in the world.

When that happens, then new synchronicities, new attractions, new realities, new political structures. Because Barbara is not just loving every human being she is love itself. She’s awakened as outrageous evolutionary love. She becomes the force of the Cosmos itself is now Barbara-ing. Is now acting as Barbara which is the ultimate incarnation that we know of, of the evolution of love which is I think is what you were referring to.

Marc: Welcome to week eight of The Universe: A Love Story, Evolutionary Love podcasts with Barbara Marx Hubbard and Marc Gafni. Here we go.

Last week, if you remember in the clip, we were looking at the beginnings of a politics of outrageous love and we began to lay down what that meant. What does it mean that love awakens in us and we become agents, we awaken as outrageous love, and we begin to engage the world and engage the outrageous pain in the world not with our small selves, not with our limited Egoic grasping, competitive selves, but as evolution awakening in us, as the evolutionary impulse awakening as us, as the outrageous love which animates the evolutionary impulse awakening as us. We awaken as outrageous lovers. And it’s only as outrageous lovers that we can engage outrageous pain. We live in a world of outrageous pain. The only response to outrageous pain is outrageous love. And Barbara, you began to talk about autopoiesis, about a system jumping to a higher level of order which happens in the physical world.

You began to describe it in the social world. I talked briefly about a unique self symphony which is another word to describe the same process. And then when we met this week in receiving the fabulous comments and the excitement about last week, we decided to step back and actually lay down some really key foundational groundwork that’s going to allow us to get to politics of outrageous love parts two and three in a way that really blows it open and it’s really grounded. It can really be transformative. That can only happen if we lay down some more fundamentals. So here we go. This is fundamentals week and fundamentals means we’re going to draw a couple of new distinctions which are essential and exciting. So here we go.

So we’ve talked about the distinction between outrageous love and ordinary love. Outrageous love equals evolutionary love. It’s the love that moves the sun and the stars. It’s the love that moves quarks to become atoms, right? And atoms to become molecules. The love that animates the entire evolutionary process. So outrageous love is evolutionary love. It’s evolutionary Eros. It’s the fifth force of the Universe using that term poetically, not in a precise scientific way. It’s that which causes the Universe not to stop at hydrogen or carbon, but to actually go through all the stages of evolution, all the big bangs.

The first big bang Cosmological evolution, physical world that we described in week one, the second big bang biological evolution the evolution of the life field, the life world.

And finally the third big bang, cultural evolution, what de Chardin called the noosphere or the evolution of ideas, the field of ideas, the field of human consciousness that moves from caveman and cavewoman up to enlightened pluralistic democracy that goes and produces great art and great goodness and great kindness and hospitals and modern medicine and extended fields of care.

So we’re talking about this whole field. We’re in this field; and so we want to make a distinction between evolutionary love and the evolution of love.

Because to really get those two terms clearly is kind of really critical.

So by evolutionary love we’re talking about the love that moves the whole process that I just described. But I also implicitly described the evolution of love itself.

So evolutionary love is the energy force that drives the whole thing. That’s evolutionary love, outrageous love, evolutionary Eros, the fifth force of the Universe. In science they call it self-organization. One of its mechanisms Barbara described last week, autopoiesis, the tendency of a system to jump to a higher level of order, that overcomes entropy, overcomes the forces of disorder. That’s all evolutionary love.

What do we mean Barbara when we talk about the evolution of love? Evolutionary love and the evolution of love. Tell us about the evolution of love.

Barbara: Well, the evolution of love is the incarnation of evolutionary love.

Marc: Right. Let’s talk about it.

Barbara: Ok. How does it feel?

Marc: Ok, so how does it feel?

Barbara: For me, now to really speak personally, the evolution of love feels like the impulse of creation inside me for life purpose, for expression of potential, joins with love, with the force of the Universe itself in it, as it is in every person when we say yes to the impulse, there’s a big yes in here. If you get an impulse and you say well maybe or I don’t think so, it won’t happen. That’s where freedom exists.

The evolution of love is by saying yes to the impulse of love in you to be outrageous. To go the whole way with it and that’s a free choice of every single person.

So the evolution of love has to do with the freedom to choose to say yes to the impulse of love within yourself and to be wise enough also to know in what direction that love is to go. It’s not just to be love in a totally expansive way for everyone and everything. Everyone has a unique aspect of the evolution of love, which is the evolution of I think of it as our soul’s code like we’re almost born to give certain gifts to the world.

Marc: What I would call it a Unique Self.

Barbara: Unique Self gift; and when you get anywhere near finding that unique impulse in you to give, it’s love, but it’s uniquely your love. It’s not somebody else’s love. And if you get anywhere close to the unique love that is yours to give and you say yes to it, then it seems that something takes over your life; and synchronicities start happening. You begin to find exactly what you need coming up, which is like the Prigogine model where a system is dysfunctional and innovations occur and the Universe is structured for the innovations to connect with each other.

Marc: In the Prigogine model if you’re just tuning in now, Barbara talked about it last week in podcast seven.

Barbara: He won a Nobel Prize to understand how nature goes from disorder to higher order for billions of years.

Marc: Against entropy, against the forces of disorder.

Barbara: And because in a closed system, entropy inevitably increases. We’re obviously not in a closed system an entropy is not increasing. Syntropy is increasing. So something is happening in there which actually is the force of creation moving. But when you get to the evolution of love and you realize that love is the impulse of creation itself in you, specifically as you, and you say yes to it, something starts to turn on in you that is I would say the impulse of evolution as love and it starts to guide you.

You start to know which way to go. You start to find the people you need like I found you or you found me. I don’t know how this happened. I can’t even remember because synchronicity starts coming in and Carl Jung thought that synchronicity was one of the great forces of the Universe because there’s a design in here.

Marc: There’s an intelligence.

Barbara: There’s an intelligence and here’s what happens when you say yes to the evolution of [0:08:00] love and you start saying yes to your life purpose. More synchronicities happen to you because you’re going up the ladder of the yes to giving more love and so nature starts to connect you with other and bigger things, what you need in order to fulfill your unique, divine destiny and then you get energized. And what we’re talking about here we mentioned last time the politics of love.

Marc: Let’s hold it there. Let’s not go there yet.

Barbara: No, but I’m not going there yet. I’m just stating that the politics of love comes from this.

Marc: Yes.

Barbara: I’m not jumping into… But without this you don’t have the politics of love.

Marc: Right. So this is right, right, right. With you. Yes.

Barbara: Does that make sense?

Marc: That makes sense. It’s like beyond awesome. Awesome is the new outrageous. No. Wrong. Outrageous is the new awesome. So ready? So I asked Barbara about the evolution of love. I’m starting to talk in the third person.

Barbara: That’s alright.

Marc: So I asked you about the evolution of love and what you described was the apex or close, but not the apex, but close to the apex, close to the highest expression of the evolution of love which is when the human being awakens and realizes Barbara is an irreducibly unique expression of evolutionary love, Barbara is an irreducibly unique expression of the evolutionary love and intelligence and she begins to naturally enact, commit outrageous acts of love as her unique self. Answering and fulfilling your unique self-code. So then you begin to participate in the evolution of love. You get it?

Now before we talk I want to say a lot about this and Barbara you described it so gorgeously. I want to go one step back. Ok? What is the evolution of love itself before we talk about participating in the evolution of love?

The evolution of love itself is something really simple. When quarks are allured to other quarks, it’s for the most part unconscious. It’s not chosen, it’s instinctive. Then, it awakens, love awakens in plants and there’s a whole literature on the erotic life of plants. Now they don’t date. They don’t go on dating sites. They don’t get divorced. But there’s more awareness, more sentience, more awake, more aliveness in plants than there are in quarks. And of course from quarks to plants is a big jump, but there’s more and more sentience which means more and more aliveness, more and more interiority, more and more consciousness, all the way up.

So love is awakening. It’s evolving. It’s evolving. If we jumped to the world of animals in the mammals then there’s now in relationships. Love’s evolving even more. There’s more caring, more concern. We then just to the human world and humans begin to take care of each other on a whole new way. Tribes are formed. The tribes are not only blood ties, they’re beyond blood ties. So tribes are formed and ultimately beyond tribes. Nations are formed where people subscribe to a shared set of ideas and they love each other. And then we move beyond that. Different nations begin to love each other.

So if we would actually track the trajectory of the evolution of love, it means that love, that force of synergy; synergy meaning coming together and forming larger wholes, of recognition, of mutuality, of union and embrace, that force of connectivity that gets more and more internally connected and then we start taking care of each other more and more. Now I’m going to say this is a really simple way and then we’re going to get right back into what Barbara said. Ok? Here’s the simple way. So we get what the evolution of love is and we don’t skip steps. Here’s the evolution of love at the human level. I’m talking about the evolution of love now at the human level. Let’s say we’ve jumped from quarks to human beings. We’ve gotten all the love’s evolved and now it’s broken out in human beings.

So I’m a human being and I have ego-centric love. I love myself, my mother, my wife, my four kids, and the people who help me survive. That’s egocentric love. That is most people’s love. Our love lists are very short. So at egocentric we love the people that help us survive. Ok?

Then I move and I expand my circle of love and I now have sociocentric or ethnocentric love which means simply I love my whole tribe whether it’s my whole religion or my whole nation or my whole tribe, the whole gang. Not just the people that directly help me survive, so I’ve now expanded my circle of love. Love is evolving. It’s expanding.

Then, level three I now love every human being on the face of the planet. Not just my circle and my tribe. That’s not just ethno-centric love; ethno my ethnicity or my religion, my nation, my peeps. I’m now loving every human being. That’s world-centric love. So love is evolving.

Then, Barbara then jumped to stage four so gorgeously; then I go from world-centric love to Cosmocentric love where I actually identify as evolution awakening as me.

Barbara: Very true and what I’m seeing as you say this is that every human being alive has the opportunity to incarnate as like you were saying Barbara-ing, whatever their name is. Every one of us, every listener to this, everybody on this planet has the opportunity to make that yes.

Marc: Yes.

Barbara: And how do you get to the yes? It’s the impulse inside you pressing you to create. Pressing you to love. And everybody has that to some degree. And if you go beyond the ethnocentric, your family and your tribe, and then your planetary…

Marc: Of course worldcentric, every human being and then planetary centric.

Barbara: Planetary centric, but this is something we really have to see. It becomes intensely personal. You see, the word planetary or Cosmocentric sounds so trans-personal but what I’m noticing is intimately, it’s personal. And the person who says yes to this scale of the larger pattern gets to be more personal all the time.

Marc: So, this is beautiful. It’s the most beautiful and critical point and it’s a paradox. As I expand I don’t disappear. It gets more intimate and more personal. Now, how this works, how it can be that I awake as the Universe having a Barbara experience… We’re here with our good friend Norman who’s an artist and a film maker. So the Universe is having a Norman experience. The Universe is having a Michael Bernard Beckwith experience although he hasn’t yet appeared here, right? The Universe is having a Marc Gafni experience, right? So when the Universe is verbing as Marc I’m not [0:16:00] just loving every human being, I’m loving everything. I am love itself. I’m being lived as love. Not ordinary love. I’m being lived as outrageous love. I awaken as an outrageous lover which isn’t about who I’m having sex with. It’s about how I’m loving every moment open as the evolutionary force itself. So this is the highest expression of the evolution of love.

Now Barbara, you say something so critical at the end I think we should dedicate our next podcast to that which is you say tell me if I got it right and I’m completely with you… that as you awaken as evolutionary love, as Cosmocentric, planetary-centric, outrageous love, you don’t disappear. You don’t become a cog in a machine. It gets super personal, super intimate. You actually count more than you ever did. You matter more than you ever did. So that is, that idea is the basic structure in creating the politics of outrageous love. And that’s what we’re going to talk about next week.

Barbara: It’s so true. It’s just one last word on becoming personal as evolutionary, Cosmo-centric love. We have talked about the evolution of the person. When anybody anywhere in the world says yes to this, they attract to them this potential. And since the Universe is designed to go in this direction, it’s not like we’re making this up and making it happen, but the yes, I just want to end on the power of the yes:

To that impulse within you to say yes to that which you want to express love and give and let it go as broad as you can. You then attract the power of the Universe inside yourself because it’s the direction if you want to put it in these terms that the Universe wants to go. You become an expression of the direction in the Universe is attempting to go in. And then something new happens to you and I think that’s evolution of humanity.

Marc: That’s the evolution of humanity. That’s becoming the new human.

Barbara: I think so.

Marc: That’s the evolution of love. That’s the regeneration. That’s the newness that happens as you age you actually become new:.. and all of this, all of this is next week in podcast next week number…

Barbara: Nine.

Marc: Nine. Wow. We’re up to number nine. The next week is politics of outrageous love part two. Barbara?

Barbara: Yes.

Marc: Love you.

Barbara: Yes. Yes, I love you too.

Marc: Are you sure?

Barbara: I do.

Marc: Do you believe her?

Norman: She said it.

Marc: She said it. Ok. Good. Love you all. Ok. Next week politics of outrageous love part two coming at you.
